An Imaging Specialist I is responsible for supporting scientific needs of researchers at Fred Hutch as defined below. The Specialist will assist both researchers and other shared resources team members in basic tasks as described below. This is an entry level position within the resource with substantial room for growth. This is an exciting opportunity to get acquainted with diverse imaging techniques in a multidisciplinary environment. The position offers a unique career development opportunity, as the candidate will have the chance to be involved with a breadth of applications in a dynamic and innovative environment. The ideal candidate will possess good organizational and analytical skills, be familiar with fluorescence microscopy techniques, and show a desire and ability to rapidly learn new skills.

Responsibilities

Major responsibilities include performing routine laboratory maintenance tasks, operating, sophisticated scientific instruments, and assisting users of the facility with instrument operation and data analysis.
– Perform imaging studies using Cellular Imaging instruments including acquiring images, communicating with investigators and executing image analysis pipelines. Includes the opportunity to learn new technical skills.
– Perform basic equipment maintenance for microscope hardware, software, and computer workstations. Assist in supply management.
– Assist in developing team SOPs, training materials, and guidelines for investigator use.
– Report results to users, perform basic billing requirements, and facilitate data transfer and archiving.
– Establish and maintain positive collaborative working relationships with faculty, researchers, and external users to identify scientific needs
– Other duties as assigned.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Level of autonomy: The Shared Resources Specialist I reports to the Cellular Imaging Director, with daily or weekly check ins. Moderate oversight and training provided by the resource Staff Scientist(s). Regular interaction with resource users is required. This position has no responsibility for supervision of others.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
– Associate Degree and 1+ years of experience, OR GED/ High School Diploma and 3+ years of experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
– Bachelors in Biology, Biophysics, or Engineering
– Demonstrated ability to lean and adapt to new systems and techniques
– Previous experience using and a basic understanding of light microscopy, especially live-cell and widefield fluorescence microscopy
– Basic understanding of image processing software (e.g. ImageJ/FIJI)
– Excellent communication and organizational skills
– Desire to work in a collaborative small-team environment
– Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc)

The hourly pay range for this position is from $28.34 to $40.35 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
