About the Position:
The Weems Lab at UT Austin is seeking a curious and driven microscopy technician to assist in the building and maintenance of two lightsheet microscopy systems. Experience building such custom imaging systems is desirable but not required, so long as the applicant is capable and committed to learning and mastering this skillset. Significant collaboration will take place between our lab and the labs in which these systems were first developed, including overnight travel for offsite training at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the building and maintenance of custom lightsheet microscopes
- Collect cell biological lightsheet imaging data
- Train and assist biologists in the operation of these systems
Qualifications:
Required: **Bachelor’s degree or higher in a scientific, engineering, or technical field relating to microscopy or optical engineering, as well as laboratory experience with fluorescence microscopy. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
**Preferred: Experience constructing and maintaining custom open beam microscopy systems; experience with gaussian light sheet microscopy; experience performing microscopal cell biology experiments.
Compensation:
$50,000 + depending on qualifications, w/ benefits
