Microscopy Application Specialist

We are seeking a motivated microscopy application specialist (w/m/d) to join the team of the Infectious Diseases Imaging Platform (IDIP, https://www.idip-heidelberg.org/) at the Center for Integrative Infectious Disease Research (CIID, https://ciid-heidelberg.de/), University Hospital Heidelberg, Germany. The successful candidate will support high-end imaging infrastructure for infectious diseases research as well as advanced training in pathogen imaging. The microscopy application specialist will be involved in ongoing research projects in the context of an EU-funded international consortium (SHIELD) that aims to understand the mechanisms of viral entry of flaviviruses (DENV, WNV, YFV, Zika), mammarenaviruses (LASV) and henipaviruses (Hendra, Nipah) and develop new therapeutic interventions. Work under enhanced biosafety containment level 2 and 3 (BSL-2 and 3) is planned and will consist of the following:
• Providing support for microscopy applications within the SHIELD consortium and CIID with particular focus on the application of live cell imaging and microscopy-based drug screening under enhanced biosafety containment
• Development of microscopy-based drug screening assays
• Image analysis, data evaluation and interpretation
• Testing / benchmarking commercial and academic workflows and reagents for microscopy applications in particular for high-content screening and feedback microscopy
• Molecular and cell biology (cloning, cell culture, generation of stably-transfected cell lines and complex model systems)
• Sample preparation for microscopy (immunofluorescence, living cells, 3D model systems)
• Support the IDIP in technical and organizational matters
• Limited introduction of users to microscopy systems
• Involvement in educational and outreach activities
