ICFO is currently looking for an SLN Technician, who will join the Super-resolution Light Microscopy & Nanoscopy (SLN) Research Facility team.
The Super-resolution Light Microscopy & Nanoscopy (SLN) Research Facility at ICFO is equipped with front-end microscopy techniques that are able to operate a step beyond the commercial state of the art. We perform continuous development to constantly improve the specifications of our microscopes to supply unique features. We collaborate with industry, hospitals, and research centres. Our systems are available to all type of end-users. We provide training through short and mid-term hands-on courses which can be tailored to accommodate any user needs and backgrounds. The research programs at the SLN cover a wide range of applications including the visualization of subcellular components, cells, tissues, organs, and model organisms.
The main responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following: 
– Working in microscopy techniques and in any related applications in the SLN. 
– Manage and facilitate access, training, and support to users.
– Participate in the main maintenance and alignment of the equipment
– Interface and collaborate with biologists and medical doctors. 
– Protocols standardization: software and hardware.
Some of the requested tasks involve:
– Maintaining and inspecting and troubleshooting technical issues with the microscopes and other related equipment in the labs.
– Contacting the manufacturer when necessary. 
– Measuring and assessing the performance of the equipment and carrying out corrective actions. 
– Managing project and user databases, and updating inventories. 
– Updating and maintaining the SLN website. 
– Creating and managing the SLN media accounts to disseminate the activities of the group. 
– Developing guides to enhance the user experience with microscopes. 
– Conducting systematic measurements for various projects.
– Assisting users in the operation of instruments, data acquisition and analysis.
