The Department of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (DHML) is part of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine of the University of Luxembourg. DHML is coordinating all teaching programmes in life sciences, medicine, nursing and midwifery. Research at the department integrates basic and translational, molecular and computational approaches with a focus on cancer biology, as well as clinical research projects in human health and disease.
The DHML cooperates with the national health care centres and with leading international biomedical research institutions. The University of Luxembourg has set a strategic focus on medicine and health and is actively developing the training and research areas in these domains, creating exceptional opportunities in medical and biomedical initiatives.

Your role
Medical and health sciences education at the University of Luxembourg is rapidly growing and represents a strategic priority for both the University of Luxembourg and the country. To foster high quality teaching within the recently created study programmes, including a bachelor in medicine, several bachelors in nursing sciences and midwifery, as well as medical specialization programmes, the Department of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences seeks to appoint a Professor in Histology.
The position focuses on innovative, interdisciplinary teaching in histology (and histopathology) at the bachelor’s level and within medical specialization programmes, while also offering access to state-of-the-art infrastructure to support high level research in related fields. As part of its strategic expansion, the DHML is offering candidates a range of opportunities to access leadership positions, including study programme directors and domain coordinators, according to the needs and development of the medical programmes. The position offers a unique opportunity to shape and drive medical education at the University of Luxembourg through innovative teaching approaches and in close cooperation with faculty colleagues and local hospitals.
The successful candidate will coordinate the histology/histopathology teaching activities in medicine and health-related programmes, working closely with the faculty and clinical colleagues to ensure an integrated and cohesive learning experience for students. They will be expected to implement modern histology curriculum using advanced educational technologies, such as virtual histology tools (digital microscopy, virtual slides, augmented/virtual reality technologies, 3D histological experiences) and online resources to provide engaging learning opportunities.
The recruited candidate will have access to cutting-edge infrastructure, labs for practical histology training and a comprehensive simulation unit. They will also coordinate histology courses and practical lab sessions, including the procurement of digital tools and teaching specimens, in collaboration with partner institutions.
Research portfolio: The candidate has an internationally recognised research profile and is expected to lead ambitious research aligned with the university’s strategic priorities, including cancer research, neurosciences, data-driven health sciences and digital medicine.
The ideal candidate has a medical background, relevant clinical experience and a strong commitment to incorporating clinical perspectives into histology education to enhance its practical application. Clinical activity may be considered.

Your profile
-         MD diploma (MD-PhD profiles are considered an advantage)
-         Long-standing experience in the teaching of histology/histopathology at undergraduate and graduate levels, ideally in a variety of curricula including medicine, life sciences and for health care professions.
-         Commitment to interdisciplinary and innovative teaching that integrates histology with anatomy, physiology and embryology
-         Experience or familiarity with modern teaching tools such as digital microscopy, virtual or augmented reality technologies, 3D histological experiences, and other digital resources
-         Solid track record in research within the domain
-         Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build and foster academic partnerships, particularly with existing collaborators at partner universities and institutions
-         Proven record of senior management skills
-         Visionary and transformational leadership skills, thriving in a dynamic and pioneering environment
 

Language requirements
The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and French. Additional knowledge of German is considered an advantage.
