Cryo-FIB/SEM Staff Scientist

The MIT Cryo-EM Facility is seeking a full-time Cryo-FIB/SEM Staff Scientist to join our collaborative team at MIT.nano. We are looking for an experienced microscopist to take the lead on our HydraBio PFIB/SEM—which is equipped with a Delmic METEOR integrated fluorescence light microscope for in situ cryo-CLEM—and support our expanding cryo-ET user base.
In this role, you will be the primary expert for the HydraBio-METEOR, working directly with researchers from across MIT (including the Department of Biology and the Koch Institute). You will collaborate closely with users to optimize lamellae preparation, fluorescence imaging, and other advanced workflows (slice and view, lift-out, spin milling), as well as troubleshoot complex sample challenges. A major focus of this position balances user training with hands-on collaborative work—you will mentor scientists with varying levels of structural biology experience to become independent, while actively partnering with them to drive advanced projects forward.
The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience with cryo-FIB/SEM instrumentation, a practical approach to facility operations, and a genuine interest in collaborative problem-solving. Please note that work authorization in the US is required for this position.
