In 2014, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Janelia Research Campus embarked on an experiment – creating a fully open-access imaging center to make Janelia-developed imaging technologies available to scientists across the globe at no cost1. Through the Advanced Imaging Center (AIC), visiting scientists not only gain access to pre-commercial, transformative microscopy technologies, but also
