Location: Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Closing Date: 1 December 2025
The Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, invites applications for a tenure-track-equivalent faculty position in the field of Biological Imaging Innovation. Preference will be given to appointments at the Assistant Scientist rank (equivalent to Assistant Professor).
We seek a creative and collaborative scientist who will develop a research program focused on advancing imaging technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to have expertise in innovating and building new light microscopes as a component of the research program. Expertise in biophysics or optical physics is preferred along with experience using and developing multimodal imaging platforms (e.g., advanced light microscopy, computational imaging, spectroscopy, image data analysis using AI/Machine Learning). These technologies should be designed to address fundamental biological questions in areas such as cell and developmental biology, evolution, functional genomics, physiology, neuroscience or regenerative biology, either as a specific goal of the imaging scientist, or in collaboration with other scientists at the MBL. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in furthering MBL’s goal to expand these tools for work in newly emerging research organisms being pioneered at the MBL. The candidate would establish an independent, externally funded research program in biological imaging, microscope innovation and development, while contributing to graduate and undergraduate education.
