Postdoctoral Research Associate in FIB-SEM and 3D Bioimaging

The Tang Lab at the University of Virginia is recruiting a Postdoctoral
Research Associate to study the multiscale structure, mechanics, and failure
of load-bearing biological tissues.
The research combines advanced electron microscopy techniques (e.g. FIB-
SEM 3D imaging), mechanical testing, and AI-driven image analysis, with
current projects focused on human bone and soft-hard tissue interfaces.
We seek candidates with a PhD in Materials/Mechanical/Biomedical
Engineering or a related field. Substantive hands-on experience with FIB,
FIB-SEM, or advanced SEM is required. Experience with serial FIB-SEM
is ideal, but candidates with hands-on experience in lamella preparation, or
related FIB workflows are also encouraged to apply. Experience with 3D
image reconstruction, segmentation, Python/MATLAB, ImageJ/Fiji,
Dragonfly, Avizo, and machine learning is preferred.
The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal contingent
upon performance and funding. The start date as early as Fall 2026.
