Job Description

To work with the Bioimaging Group at the National Bioscience Laboratory (LNBio).

Responsibilities and Duties

The professional will work on the development and application of advanced bioimaging methodologies, with a focus on imaging animal models.
Key responsibilities include:
– Develop, adapt, and validate bioimaging methodologies, instrumentation, and workflows for studies involving animal models, particularly rats and mice;
– Contribute to the implementation of advanced bioimaging capabilities in high-containment biological environments (BSL-3 and/or BSL-4);
– Perform imaging activities using techniques such as intravital microscopy and in vivo optical imaging on multimodal platforms (fluorescence, bioluminescence, IVIS, among others);
– Interact with different multidisciplinary teams across CNPEM;
– Develop and implement experimental, surgical, and operational protocols for animal experimentation, as well as validate new bioimaging approaches;
– Analyze data and contribute to the generation of scientific knowledge, including publications and technological development;
– Contribute to the development and improvement of bioimaging infrastructures and solutions.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • PhD in Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, or related fields;
  • Practical experience with animal experimentation, particularly with rodent models, including handling, anesthesia, monitoring, surgery, and good experimental practices;
  • Knowledge of bioimaging technologies applied to research, including confocal microscopy, multiphoton microscopy, CT, and bioluminescence;
  • Knowledge of good practices in animal experimentation, preparation of protocols for ethics committees, the 3Rs principles, and current animal welfare practices;
  • Familiarity with biosafety practices in research environments, including containment facilities (BSL-2 and BSL-3);
  • Advanced English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with imaging techniques using synchrotron light sources;
  • Experience integrating different microscopy and imaging modalities;
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary environments involving engineering, physics, biology, and computing;
  • Experience with animal experimentation using models other than rodents.
