Argentina

Home to scientists such as César Milstein, who shared the Nobel prize in ‘Physiology or Medicine’ in 1984 for developing the hybridoma technique to produce monoclonal antibodies, Argentina is a hub of scientific achievement. The establishment and development of scientific institutions specializing in biological research has meant that Argentina has consistently produced high-quality research in a range of biological disciplines such as parasitology and virology, using myriad microscopy techniques.

Some institutions that are prominent in the field of microscopy are the Leloir Institute in Buenos Aires, the Center for Bio-Nanoscience Research (CIBION), and the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET). These institutions, among others, provide funding for and nurture excellent research in the field of microscopy in Argentina. In this blog, we hear from Argentinian microscopists who have made distinguished contributions to microscopy in the context of virology, parasitology, and super-resolution microscopy.
