FocalPlane features… open microscopy and accessible workflows
Posted by FocalPlane, on 2 May 2024
Our next FocalPlane features… webinar is on open microscopy and accessible workflows with talks from Richard Bowman, Jan Huisken and Dumisile Lumkwana. Richard will speak about OpenFlexure Microscopes, which are open-source optical microscopes that are built using 3D printed components and off the shelf components. The OpenFlexure project aims to promote broader access to microscopy.JCS-FocalPlane Training Grants

We are excited to launch our new JCS-FocalPlane Training Grants. Early-career researchers in cell biology can apply for grants of up to £1,000 to support their attendance at microscopy courses, including bioimage analysis courses. These training grants can be used to cover the registration fees, accommodation and/or travel costs and are designed to support thoseFeatured image with Sujan Ghimire

Our featured image, acquired by Julien Rességuier, shows the branchial cavity lymphoid architecture of an adult zebrafish. It is a 2D projection of a 3D multi-field of view acquisition of a transversal cryosection (30 μm) that has been stained with fluorescent phalloidin (inverted LUT – grey/copper) and DAPI (blue) to reveal tissue structures and labelledMicroscopy preprints – applications in biology

A widefield microscope can be utilised for far more than simple fluorescence experiments. By carefully choosing peripheral components including the light source, the system can open up an array of additional applications, from FRET to optogenetic stimulation and calcium imaging. LEDs are the go-to method for microscope illumination, offering many benefits in terms of performance,SciCommConnect: science communication, community connections

Imagine you try out a software tool for the analysis of your data and for some reason it is not working in the way you expected. Neither the user documentation, nor forums like image.sc or stack overflow can provide answers. Then it is likely that you either found a bug in the software tool orEducation Strategies of Imaging Cores

Over the past two decades, high profile research institutions have come to rely on distinct core facilities for much of their data and image analysis. The benefits of the newest technologies are often softened by the costs of purchasing and maintaining such equipment for regular use. For microscopy and imaging, it only made sense thatGet involved
