Bolivia
Bolivia, a biological expanse of flora and fauna, boasts an innumerable number of endemic species. Nestled in the Andes Mountain range, Bolivia is at the forefront of biological research in Latin America. Due to its geographical climate, many up-and-coming scientists from Bolivia desire to stake their claim in their respective scientific fields. Yet, Bolivia’s relevance in Latin American microscopy is not new; Bolivia hosts many veteran microscopists who have contributed extensively to the field. One such instance of this is Dr. Pamela Duran Toledo. Of renowned merit, Pamela began her journey in the field of microbiology at a young age. As a child, she would study various syllabus programmes, which eventually led her down the route of working in clinical laboratories. From this she entered the fields of microscopy and parasitology. Pamela has had a long and prosperous career and is currently a lecturer at Universidad Mayor de San Andres. Her work has been wide-reaching and highly cited in Bolivian academia. In this blog we see the relevance of Bolivian microscopists in the wider field, with an in-depth look at paleobiology and parasitology.
