EPSRC DTP PhD Studentship: Understanding coherent light-tissue interaction for optical tissue soldering in minimally invasive robotic surgery, University of Sussex, UK
Posted by Rodrigo Aviles, on 19 April 2022
The Robotics and Mechatronic Systems research group is currently looking for a highly motivated person aiming to obtain a PhD in photonics at the University of Sussex .
This PhD project will focus on studying the light tissue interaction at microscopic level using novel laser technologies to overcome the current challenges in minimally invasive surgery by setting the foundations for the development of optical based technology capable of current medical robotic procedures using IR pulsed laser technology to perform tissue soldering.
Suitable candidates should have an MSc qualification in one of the following areas: Photonics, Optoelectronics, Physics, optics, Biomedical or Electronic engineering, as well as being keen to learn related concepts from key areas within this project such as robotics, kinematics, surgical techniques etc.
