Introducing JCS snapshots

Posted by , on 21 May 2025

At The Company of Biologists, we’re always looking for new ways to help authors promote their research. We have therefore introduced ‘JCS snapshots’ where we invite the authors of recently published articles to produce short videos to present the main findings in their research. Below, you can browse through ‘JCS snapshots’ from the Tavernarakis lab,

Interviews and researchers' testimonies from Biologists @ 100

Posted by , on 8 May 2025

During the Biologists @ 100 conference, we conducted and recorded interviews with a few researchers to get to know their work better, collecting their testimonies and feedback about the conference. At the end of the interview, researchers were asked to get their picture taken with a ‘polaroid frame’ and write a few keywords about their

Announcing the winners of the Node–FocalPlane image competition.

Posted by , on 27 March 2025

We are delighted to announce the winners of the Node–FocalPlane image competition, which we presented at the Biologists @ 100 conference, as well as on the Node and FocalPlane. In first place is ‘Cell-estial bloom’ from Özge Özgüç. Özge’s image is a colony of live hiPSCs, with fluorescently labelled Lamin B delineating the nuclear lamina

Our featured image, acquired by David Gaboriau, shows human fibroblasts with mitochondria (Tom20) in yellow, alpha tubulin in pink and actin in grey. It’s a 3D-SIM image taken on a Zeiss Elyra PS.1, reconstructed in Zen and presented as a maximum intensity projection. Interview with Piyush Daga

Posted by , on 3 September 2024

Piyush was one of the three-minute talk presenters at our recent science communication event, SciCommConnect. At the event, which we co-hosted with the Node and preLights, we were treated to fantastic talks on a range of topics. Piyush’s talk really stood out to us, not least because of the striking microscopy image on his slide.
