Research Fellow in Advanced Optical Imaging, University of St Andrews, UK
Posted by Graham Bruce, on 8 July 2022
Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work on a European Union-funded project. The work is based within the Optical Manipulation Group in the School of Physics and Astronomy (https://opticalmanipulationgroup.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk). The group aims to build upon a range of internationally recognized work in the area of photonics and its applications at St Andrews. The specific topic area of this post is the development of new techniques in advanced optical imaging in biophotonics and their translation to clinical research.
We are particularly interested in researchers with prior experience in one or more of: multiphoton imaging; light sheet imaging; temporal-focusing microscopy; imaging through optical fibre and scattering media; the development and application of numerical methods of deep learning or multivariate analysis. The post is for one year in the first instance, with possible extension period depending on funding and mutually satisfactory progress.
The post-holder will be required to undertake both experimental work and numerical studies. They will play a leading role in developing and implementing new optical imaging modalities, novel forms of light sheet microscopy, temporal focusing microscopy and other approaches to imaging at depth. The imaging will be conducted with a range of biological samples, including zebrafish and other marine organisms, and human tissue.
Informal enquiries (NOT full applications) to: Professor Kishan Dholakia, kd1@st-andrews.ac.uk.
Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in research posts at the University.
Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
