Funding to access UK Euro-BioImaging services: next round closes on 31 March!
Posted by Georgina Fletcher, on 4 February 2026
The next round of applications is open for the UK Bioimaging User Access Fund, which provides UK researchers with access to state-of-the-art bioimaging technologies and analysis services at the UK Node of Euro-BioImaging.
What’s Available: The UK Node comprises 14 facilities across 7 leading UK sites*, offering open access to a wide range of advanced biological imaging techniques including volume EM, spatial’omics, lightsheet, and super-resolution microscopy, as well as image analysis services. Up to £5,000 is available at 100% FEC for access to bioimaging hardware, or up to £2,000 for image analysis services only. The fund covers costs associated with accessing imaging facilities, including access and consumable costs, travel and accommodation expenses, and technical support and training.
Eligible UK Node Sites:
We expect most applications to be for external access to one of these UK Node sites*:
- ESRIC (Edinburgh Super-resolution Imaging Consortium)
- University of York, Imaging and Cytometry Facility
- University of Liverpool, Centre for Cellular Imaging, Biomedical Electron Microscopy Unit, Pre-clinical Imaging
- Oxford Brookes University, Centre for Bioimaging
- King’s College London, Nikon Imaging Centre, Microscopy Innovation Centre, London Metallomics Facility, Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging
- The Francis Crick Institute, CALM facility
*Since the OCTOPUS facility at Harwell already benefits from having dedicated UKRI-funded user access arrangements in place, this facility is excluded from this funding scheme; to access their equipment please visit the relevant pages on the Central Laser Facility website

Next deadline: 31 March 2025
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with evaluation every 4 months on 31 March, 31 July, and 30 November. Decisions are made within 4 weeks of each deadline.
Who Can Apply: This funding is available to UK researchers from all biological and biomedical research disciplines. Projects will be assessed based on technical feasibility and scientific merit.
How It Works: MANDATORY: Before applying, you must discuss and agree on your experimental plan (feasibility, cost, timeframes) with the chosen host facility(s). Once you’ve agreed on the plan with the facility, you can proceed to submit your formal application.
For informal enquiries or guidance on which facility might be most suitable for your research, please contact info@eurobioimaging.eu or myself (georgina@rms.org.uk).
