“Beyond pretty pictures” subgroup at Cell Bio 2023

Posted by , on 6 July 2023

The traditional approach of learning cell biology simply by looking at microscopy images is becoming harder and is sometimes even not possible with the growing complexity, volume and dimensionality of modern microscopy imaging data. Data science, a field that combines techniques from machine learning, statistics and other computer science fields to extract meaning from unstructured and noisy data, is uniquely positioned to aid in this process.

The ASCB|EMBO subgroup we organized last year was a blast, with a packed hall of cell and computational biologists beginning to form a data science community within @ASCBiology. This year we plan to make our “beyond pretty pictures” subgroup even better by including tandem talks, presenting collaborative research involving experimental and computational biologists.

Our subgroup will take place on Wednesday, December 6th, 8:15-10:45 at the annual ASCB|EMBO Cell Bio meeting in Boston. If you extract cell biological insight by analyzing microscopy images please consider submitting an abstract by August 1!
