SciCommConnect: science communication, community connections

Posted by , on 16 April 2024

Along with our sister community sites, the Node and preLights, we are delighted to announce that we are hosting an online workshop on science communication on Monday 10 June from 13:00-18:00 BST. The workshop will be split into sections on oral communication and written communication and includes a three-minute research talk competition and collaborative writing sprints. We have talks from Jamie Gallagher, an engagement trainer and consultant and former winner of the International 3 Minute thesis competition and John Wallingford, a PI at The University of Texas at Austin and creator of the #DevBiolWriteClub.

If you’ll be giving a flash talk at a conference and want expert feedback on your presentation, you’re writing a paper or thesis, or you are interested in improving your scicomm skills and networking with peers, then SciCommConnect is the workshop for you!

Applications for the short talk competition are optional and spaces are limited. All presenters will receive feedback and the winners will receive a cash prize.

Our writing sprints will be an opportunity to meet and collaborate with like-minded researchers on writing projects within the remits of our community sites.

There is no fee for our workshop, thanks to support from The Company of Biologists.

Applications for the three minute research talk competition will close on 26 May 2024.
