FocalPlane features… microscopy education

Posted by , on 10 May 2024

The second webinar of our new series of FocalPlane features… focussed on microscopy education. We hosted fantastic talks from Jennifer Waters, CITE, Harvard Medical School and Robert Haase from ScaDS.AI, Leipzig University.

Jennifer introduced Microtutor, a new interactive virtual light microscopy course that will be released soon. The course is free and can be completed independently or as a flipped classroom. You can sign up for the mailing list here.

Robert discussed the importance of licensing in sharing training material. Robert encourages everyone to use a CC-BY-4.0 licence when sharing research and training material and discussed the implications of adding the -ND and -NC clauses to the licence. Robert’s talk starts 20mins and 40 seconds into the recording. You can access Robert’s slides here.

The webinar concluded with an interesting debate between Jennifer and Robert on the subject of licensing.

Our next webinar is on open microscopy on Thursday 16 May with Richard Bowman, Jan Huisken and Dumisile Lumkwana. Register here.
