New Intern for FocalPlane

Hi everyone!
My name is Ryan Harrison and I’m an intern who will be working on the community sites at The Company of Biologists, including FocalPlane, for the next three months.
The first time I was properly introduced to microscopy was during my Master’s (MSci) project in Lancaster University. My project was between the labs of Morgan Gadd and Andrew Fielding, working with Amanda Thomaz, where I was investigating supernumerary centrosomes in difficult-to-treat breast cancers. Here, I was able to take fantastic fluorescence images, and I decided to pursue a PhD that would allow me to carry on using fluorescence microscopy.
Following my undergraduate studies, I joined the MRC DTP in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research at the University of Warwick, where I am currently pursuing a PhD between the labs of Timothy Saunders and James Briscoe (Francis Crick Institute) researching organoids mimicking embryonic development of the lower back and spine. There is still a large microscopy component to my research, and I really enjoy using the lab’s spinning disc confocal microscope.
